ABOUT
To be in service of music and bring emotion to people, with my instrument, who otherwise have stereotypes to it
Robert Visser is a passionate euphonium artist from the Netherlands who started his musical journey at age six, playing the trumpet in a wind band. It was there that he discovered his love for music and eventually transitioned to the euphonium at age nine, after a brief period playing the trombone.
Robert has earned recognition for his exceptional talent, achieving notable results in solo competitions. He placed second at the Vilnius Brass Competition and third at the Singapore Open Brass Competition. These achievements reflect his commitment to refining his craft and pushing the boundaries of what is possible on the euphonium. Beyond competitions, Robert has become an established arranger for wind music, with some of his works performed by renowned ensembles. In 2024, his arrangement of Ein Heldenleben by Richard Strauss premiered with the acclaimed "Koninklijke Harmonie Thorn," marking a significant milestone in his career as an arranger.
A dedicated member of "Koninklijke Harmonie Thorn," Robert has contributed both as an arranger and a soloist. He has performed as a soloist with several wind bands across the Netherlands in recent years, showcasing the euphonium's versatility and expressive range. His work has also extended into unique collaborations, such as his partnership with the Dutch amusement park "de Efteling," where he arranged and performed music for their summer entertainment programs. These projects reflect Robert’s passion for exploring new avenues to connect audiences with the euphonium and wind music.
Robert holds a Master of Music degree from the Maastricht Conservatory, where he studied under Professor Hans Nickel. During his studies, he participated in an Erasmus+ exchange program in Helsinki, Finland, studying with Jukka Myllys. These formative experiences shaped his artistic vision and inspired his dedication to pushing the boundaries of wind music. While his education laid the foundation for his career, his continued growth comes from his willingness to embrace diverse opportunities and projects.
As a teacher, Robert works with students of all ages and abilities in Eindhoven, Terheijden, and Kerkdriel. He is also an experienced clinician, having given masterclasses and concerts in Thailand. Robert’s teaching is rooted in his desire to inspire and help others achieve their potential, and his students benefit from his deep knowledge, musicality, and enthusiasm.
Robert’s career is built on his passion for performing, arranging, and teaching. Whether on stage as a soloist, crafting arrangements for wind ensembles, or guiding his students, he is dedicated to sharing the joy and artistry of music with audiences and musicians alike.
